Amnesty says Nigerian military strike killed at least 100 civilians

Pentagon raises Iran war cost estimate to $29 billion

WHO warns of more Hondius hantavirus cases

UK Prime Minister Starmer resists Labour calls to resign

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Cabinet on Tuesday he would not resign after Labour lawmakers and several ministers called on him to quit or set a timetable for electing a new party leader later this year. PBS reported that more than 100 Labour lawmakers signed a letter supporting Starmer, while about 90 urged him to set a timetable for leaving. The revolt followed heavy Labour losses in local elections last week. Le Temps reported that the party lost more than 1,400 local elected positions and ground to Reform UK, the Greens and pro-independence parties in Wales and Scotland. Starmer said the government would continue its program, and The Guardian reported that he was due to set out 35 bills in the next parliamentary session covering issues including housing and immigration at Wednesday’s state opening of Parliament. Eleven Labour-affiliated unions, including Unite, Unison and the GMB, were expected to issue a statement saying the party “cannot continue on its current path” and that “at some stage” it will need a plan to elect a new leader.
