Pentagon adds Alibaba, BYD, Baidu to China list

The U.S. Defense Department updated its Section 1260H list of Chinese companies it identifies as linked to China’s military on Monday, adding Alibaba, BYD, Baidu and other major technology and industrial firms. The list, required by Congress in 2021, identifies companies the Pentagon considers connected to the People’s Liberation Army or China’s defense industrial base, including firms Washington says contribute through Beijing’s military-civil fusion strategy. Philippines quake kills at least 37 in Mindanao

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off Mindanao in the southern Philippines at 7:37 a.m. local time Monday, killing at least 37 people, injuring hundreds and damaging buildings in and around General Santos and Sarangani province. The quake was centered offshore near Sarangani, south of General Santos, and tremors were felt across Mindanao and as far as Manado on Indonesia’s Sulawesi island.
